Investigators announced that Mechanicsville resident Thomas Christiani has been identified as the driver and only person on a Honda motorcycle that was involved in the fatal crash on Saturday afternoon, authorities say.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Feb. 3, troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack were called to the area of Mechanicsville Road and Asher Road, where there was a reported two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.

According to investigators, Christiani was riding south on Mechanicsville Road when, for unknown reasons, he struck a delivery van attempting to turn into a driveway.

Christiani was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Investigators made note that impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The crash led to road closures for several hours while state police investigated the incident.
